San Diego Trip

Our tip to San Diego started out with showing Matt what the life of an airline employee is all about. If the seats are full you don't go. Of course it has been crazy busy out of Bellingham so I watched the seats fill up one after the other just to realize that there was no way Matt and I would be getting on. We talked to the car rental companies and we at least get a deal with them so we were off in a car headed to Seattle to catch our San Diego flight. Out of Seattle we got on no problem, even got to sit by each other. We arrived in San Diego at 8:37p, called the hotel just to be told that they stop picking up at 8p. We just took it for what it was and had to tell ourselves we were now on vacation so things were going to be okay. We decided that Thursday would be our Sea World day. The hotel has a free shuttle leaving at 10a and pick up is at 5p. We of course being dutch took advantage of the free ride.

Sea World was great! It was super hot that day and soon we would find out that it was a heat wave going through for the weekend. We went to every show and through all the exhibits. We actually picked a good day since it wasn't to busy. First picture is of a California Sea Lion. Though it may look like just a simple picture it was actually where you could feed the Sea Lions and let me tell you, think of 30 kids screaming and that is about what it sounded like. This sea lion would make all kinds on noise and dance around on the rock until someone would throw him a fish.

A quick self photo in front of Shamu's aquarium.

We went to the dolphin show which was one of Matt's favorites. They did a pretty cute planned out show. We probably liked them because Matt and I both really want to swim with dolphins. Someday hopefully.

Of course we had to take a picture of Shamu!

Matt was petting a sting ray! The sting ray would put his head right above water where we were standing and wait to be petted.

We had a great day at Sea World!!

We met a couple on the shuttle to Sea World that was also wanting to go to the zoo the next day and since there was no free shuttle we decided to meet up the next morning and share a taxi or the green ride, a much better deal.

You have to imagine it is about 97 out and we decide we want to see the whole zoo so we are going to walk. Little did we know that there are hundreds of stairs and steep hills to climb. They do have a great zoo though. A lot of the animals are outside instead of in cages, they are blocked off but still you can see them so much better.

Matt loved the elephants and even wanted to go back and see them a second time.

We got to get pretty close to some of the animals and the apes were friendly next to the windows.
After the zoo we went back to the hotel and took an hour to rest our feet. Then we were off to Mission Beach. We had heard about this beach from a couple people and wanted to go to a place called the wave house that is suppose to be cool.

The Wave House has a special pool with a wave that surfers can go and show off while everyone is watching and eating. They let kids go on boogie boards and it doesn't matter if you are a beginner or pro. I thought my nephew Jalani would have loved it there.

Just before we were headed it out the sun was going down and it looked awesome.

Saturday we were not sure what we were going to do. We had thought about the beach but once again it was going to be around 100 and we were not sure we could handle being in the sun all day. After looking at a map we decided to walk to a place where we could catch a trolley and go to the piers. As soon as we got there we saw a Carnival Cruise ship docked and of course a huge navy ship. Once Matt saw that it was a retired Navy ship after Dessert Storm and we could tour it he was in. I wasn't sure about it at first but I have to admit it was quite interesting and I really enjoyed it.

If I could have only got the whole ship in one picture.

The bunks where the sailors slept. There is not much room at all so I think I gained a lot of respect for our Navy, though I already felt highly of all our military and what they do.

A picture from the tower on the ship. Matt kept talking about top gun the whole time in there since it was where the "fly by" takes place.

The Carnival Cruise ship next door!

San Diego was a great trip and we had so much fun. We are off to the rodeo on Friday so I am sure we will have lots of pictures and stories when we get back. Have a great Labor Day!!
